Affiliate Marketing

The Magic Formula?

Finding reliable information about affiliate marketing on the web can be a tortuous process. First of all you have to navigate your way past the seemingly endless list of well-placed sites attempting to sell you ebooks or explain how you can make a given amount in a number of days. You've probably seen quite a few of these already. If you have then you may be ready for some important home truths about internet marketing. No ebook will tell you this. There isn't a magic formula to instant riches through internet marketing.

How it's Done...

There are established and well-documented routes to making money from a web-site with reasonable levels of traffic and a well-established market niche. There are also some caveats. But if you're keen to start and you think you already have a grip of the basics, you're probably ready to apply to join an affiliate programme. For the uninitiated, this means that you will publish ads and links on your website which are provided through the affiliate programme by merchants wishing to market and sell their goods and services. The theory goes something like this: if you do have a website that attracts a reasonable amount of attention from a particular group of people with a specialist interest, then placing relevant ads and links around the interesting and compelling content you already have on your site will leads to click throughs and sales. Sales for the merchant you are advertising for will generate commission through the affiliate programme and that means your interesting website has suddenly become an income generating one as well. All of this isn't as simple as it sounds. Everybody thinks their website is interesting or relevant or vital - but does anyone else? Even if you do have the highly targetted traffic your prospective merchant partners are looking for, the may not like your content, or design, or just your attitude. They are allowed to do this of course. Advertisers don't have to advertise with you just because you've signed up to an affiliate programme, and they can be as picky as they like. They are, after all, only concerned with their brand which may have a very rare flavour indeed. If you navigate this stage and find your website is attracting queues of willing merchants ready to offer you cash to display their marketing messages, you will begin the long journey of finding relevant ways to display those ads and messages without compromising your website content. After all the reason you put up a website in the first place wasn't just to display ads, was it? (If it was you will probably find that you won't be accepted for an affiliate programme, won't get any merchants and won't get any traffic).
3 Simple Steps

To Sum Up:(You've probably skipped to this part if you're in a hurry)

1. Establish a website. You would be surprised how many people want to skip this stage but it is practically impossible (esoteric and illeagal methods aside) to establish a relationship with an affiliate programme without one. It should ideally be an established website with a steady stream of targetted and returning traffic (people making visits and stopping to look at your interesting content.

2. Join an affiliate programme. Almost all marketing on the web is now channelled through such programme. there are many of course, but that is another subject. The more established ones are the best bet if you have decent niche traffic. Probably the best one in the UK and Europe can be found here

3. Place ads and marketing in a relevant way. There wouldn't be much point in the whole affiliate marketing thing if you ended up scaring off all your interesting niche visitors with annoying, irrelevant adverts. Your merchants won't like it either and you are bound to sell absolutely nothing.

There is more to say of this subject but the whole arena of marketing on the internet cannot be dealt with on one page and is so much more disgestable when carved into chunks. More chunks can be sampled here.
